Featured plants, which number around 125, grow wild in this biodiverse region and were selected for being edible, palatable, and easily identified. Lytton Musselman is the Mary Payne Hogan Distinguished Professor of Botany at Old Dominion University.

He has also written about the plants of the Chesapeake Bay as well as plants mentioned in the Bible and the Qu’ran.
