This FAQ does not reflect current guidelines and policies as of August 12, 2022. It is currently being revised. Please refer to the other pages on this site for current information for the moment.
FAQ was updated on January 7, 2022, with information about the guidelines for Spring 2022.
General
Yes. With vaccines widely available, we are planning an in-person 2021-22 academic year, with traditional semester calendar and breaks. Spring semester classes begin Jan. 24, and students will enjoy the complete Beloit experience: residential living, campus activities, and services.
The College requires vaccines for all employees and students. New students should submit their vaccine documentation to the Health and Wellness Center at healthcenter@beloit.edu. Students will not be permitted to move into on-campus housing without submitting their vaccine documentation.
Additionally, all students, faculty, and staff will be required to provide documentation of a negative COVID-19 test when they return to campus following winter break.
Since COVID-19 will remain a reality, we will continue to review and require adherence to appropriate health and safety measures. We are confident that Beloit’s spirit of “self-care is community care” will allow us to succeed in keeping our community safe, in-person, and as close to “normal” as possible.
As it has done since the beginning of the pandemic, Beloit’s COVID-19 Task Force is closely monitoring regional, national, and international developments, in addition to CDC recommendations, in order to evolve our policies and ensure the health and safety of our campus.
Yes. All Beloit College students, faculty, and staff are required to be vaccinated.
If they are vaccinated, students, faculty, and staff will not need to be regularly tested. Students who are showing symptoms of COVID-19 and students who come into close contact with someone who has COVID-19 will need to be tested regardless of vaccination status.
Students attending Beloit this fall are required to share their vaccination status with the College’s Health and Wellness Center before being permitted to move into their on-campus housing.
If you have not done so, please send your vaccination status to covidresults@beloit.edu as soon as possible.
We understand that some individuals are unable to be vaccinated due to medical or religious reasons, or strong philosophical objections.
Unvaccinated members of our community will need to undergo weekly testing, and quarantine if designated a close contact of a positive case.
Students with questions about exemptions may contact the Health and Wellness Center.
Vaccines are widely available in the U.S., and we know they may be more limited for international students. We anticipate that students who are unable to obtain vaccines before coming to campus will have the opportunity to get them in the Beloit community through the Beloit Health System or from pharmacies and health providers anywhere in the U.S.
The COVID-19 Task Force is following CDC guidance for masks.
All students, current and emeriti faculty, staff, and guests (regardless of vaccination status) are required to wear face masks indoors with the exception of their personal space (i.e. dorm room or office). Masks are not required outdoors.
Physical distancing is encouraged as it continues to be a highly effective way to avoid illness.
Vaccines & Testing
All students are required to get a COVID-19 test three days or less from their arrival date on campus for Spring Semester 2022.
The documentation of your negative result should be submitted to this google form BEFORE you arrive on campus.
The only exception is if you have had a lab-confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 within the 90 days before you arrive on campus; submit your positive test results to healthcenter@beloit.edu.
All students, faculty, and staff are required to receive a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Friday, January 28.
Students who have received their booster dose should submit proof of vaccination through this Google Form.
Yes. If you have not been vaccinated, you will be tested weekly.
Students who are showing symptoms of COVID-19 and students who come into close contact with someone who has COVID-19 will need to be tested, regardless of vaccination status.
Since its formation, the COVID-19 Task Force has consistently evaluated changing conditions and emerging information with the primary goal of our campus being a safe place for everyone, including students and staff who remain on campus and those who will come to campus as the fall semester begins. The Task Force’s approach is to layer protective practices, including encouraging vaccination and requiring testing before coming to campus for unvaccinated individuals, wearing masks, and physical distancing.
We also hope that those who are able to get the vaccine will take it, as it provides the greatest amount of protection. We understand that for health and other reasons, some individuals may not be able to take the vaccine.
International Students
We anticipate that students who are unable to obtain vaccines before coming to campus will have the opportunity to get them on campus or from pharmacies and health providers anywhere in the U.S.
A subcommittee of our COVID-19 Task Force dedicated specifically to international students is considering access to courses, housing, and travel, as well as lobbying our representatives to free up VISA requirements to ease travel to the U.S. for an education.
If you are unable to get to campus because of travel or visa restrictions, or other personal concerns, we will work with you to develop a plan for your Beloit experience.
Students should contact Shannon Jolly (jollysl@beloit.edu) with questions.
We won’t know for sure until we are closer to move-in. Quarantine requirements will be set by current CDC and State Department policies at the time of arrival.
If quarantine is required, students may make arrangements to arrive on campus up to 10 days before their scheduled move-in date.
We will accept any vaccine available and approved in your home country. We also plan to implement a process for you to be vaccinated after arrival if you are unable to obtain a vaccination beforehand.
Students who need to receive the COVID-19 vaccine once they are on campus should contact the Health and Wellness Center, at healthcenter@beloit.edu.
The CDC is very clear that the virus still remains a threat to our health and safety. The best way to protect ourselves is through getting vaccinated.
Members of our community will be required to follow all campus protective practices.
Spring Semester
New international students who must quarantine should plan to arrive in Beloit on Jan. 12. New international students who do not need to quarantine should arrive Jan. 19.
New domestic students arrive Jan. 20.
Residence halls open for returning students Jan. 21.
We encourage our community to continue practicing our motto of “self-care is community care.” Personal travel is permitted following CDC guidelines.
Students are expected to use good judgment. If exposed to a person with a confirmed case, testing will be required for all individuals. A 14-day self-quarantine may be necessary.
We encourage our community to continue practicing our motto of “self-care is community care.” Domestic travel is permitted, following CDC and campus guidelines.
Unvaccinated travelers need to provide a negative test prior to returning to campus. International travel must adhere to policies for international off-campus study. For questions regarding college-sponsored travel, please contact covid-19@beloit.edu.
According to the Campus Visitors Policy: visitors to campus will be permitted as necessary for essential academic purposes, business continuity, or as guests of staff, students, and faculty.
- All visitors are required to wear a mask indoors on campus, even if fully vaccinated.
- Visitors may enter campus buildings only when accompanied by a faculty or staff member or student.
- Physical distancing is encouraged as it continues to be a highly effective way to avoid illness.
- Due to the visitor mask policy, visitors will not be invited to have meals in indoor locations on campus. Eating outdoors is allowed and encouraged.
- Overnight guests are not allowed.
If you have questions about whether a visitor should come to campus, please contact the COVID-19 Task Force (covid-19@beloit.edu).
Teaching & Learning
We are planning as fully an in-person academic year as possible, including classes, residential living, and campus activities, and hope that the majority of our students will be able to participate, in-person.
Since classes will be meeting in-person, students will not be studying remotely. Arrangements will be made for students who are not able to attend class because of a brief illness or quarantine, as has always been our policy.
These are former Q&A that have been saved for future use/reference.
You will receive an email telling you the specific date and time that you may move into your room. Please limit the number of people helping you to two.
Questions should be directed to reslife@beloit.edu.
The Midwest Conference has announced its intention to return to fall sports competition, and will issue specific guidelines in the near future. Each team will set dates for student-athletes to return to campus. Coaches will be contacting athletes with reporting information.
