moreOur staff completes over 500 coaching sessions each year, in topics ranging from resumes to mock interviews to career exploration.
While these appointments are uniquely tailored to each student, we know that hands-on workshops are also a great way to learn. That’s why we ensure that you have access to career development events that help you build professional skills.
From the moment you step on campus, you embark on your career exploration journey. You’ll be introduced to career pathways as you build your knowledge, strengths, and skills through courses, co-curricular activities, informal conversations and interactions, and hands-on experience.
Unique to Beloit College is the Advanced Mentoring Program (AMP) for first and second year students. The program’s Connect Sessions, in particular, will introduce you to professional development opportunities.
To this end, Career Works offers AMP Connect Sessions on topics ranging from building your strengths, creating your first resume, picking a major, and more. These sessions offer you the opportunity to plan out your first few semesters and in doing so, gain some professional skills right from the start.
Experiences beyond the classroom are important, but learning how to tell the story of their significance is even more important. That is where the Beloit and Beyond Conference comes in: to encourage you to share your learning in professional and academic forums, while also learning from others.
During the Beloit and Beyond Conference, students participate in panel discussions and workshops, relate their experiences studying abroad or domestically, and discuss how interning, job-shadowing, volunteering, and holding leadership positions on campus and in the community contributes to their education.
At the Local to Global Networking Reception that follows the conference, you will meet community professionals and potential employers, local, regional, and national, and from the public, private and non-profit sectors. This reception is more than a job fair - it’s an opportunity to build relationships with influencers and hiring managers face-to-face.
Winter and early spring will be a crucial time for you to prepare for a productive summer. Many internships and research opportunities have deadlines in early spring. Seniors will apply for their first professional jobs, graduate school, or service roles. The Career Accelerator is designed to help.
In partnership with the Career Channels program and Community-Based Learning, the Career Accelerator, held between the fall and spring semesters, focuses on career success by offering virtual workshops, panel discussions, and keynote talks. Other events include mock interviews with alumni, Career Channel networking sessions, and graduate school preparation workshops.
In the inaugural year of the Career Accelerator, faculty and staff offered over 70 events.
The Career Accelerator demonstrates Beloit College’s whole-campus commitment to your professional success.
Senior year can be stressful! Not only are your capstone projects due, and your co-curricular programming must be concluded, but you must prepare for life after graduation.
Career Works’ Senior Series will help you manage the stress, by offering workshops focused on preparing for post-graduation opportunities. We cover all of the tools necessary for a successful search, including perfecting a resume, cover letter, and grad school personal statement; preparing for interviews; and understanding workplace dynamics.
The Senior Series is a partnership between Career Works and faculty. For many senior capstone courses, attendance at the Senior Series is a requirement. In addition to attendance, faculty partners in the series include assignments in their courses such as informational interviews with professionals in their fields, mock interviews, and professional portfolio development.
