Research Interests

Eyad’s research includes topics in biometrics, digital image processing, medical imaging, data mining and data fusion to develop fully automated systems for identification, prediction and classification purposes. More specifically, He worked in development of fully Automated Dental Identification System (ADIS) with goals and objectives similar to Automated Fingerprints Identification System (AFIS) but using dental characteristics extracted from dental x-rays images instead of fingerprints. He also worked to develop new tools that help in understanding climate change and predict future disasters related to weather, such as hurricanes and forest fires. In addition, he worked in development of prediction based methods to compare (and fuse) two sources of satellite data that have different modalities and characteristics. Eyad taught several course in the field of computer science and he has experience in ABET accreditation.

I enjoy teaching courses in the field of computer science and data science such as machine learning, data mining, computer networks, data structures and algorithms and programming using Python. In my courses, students undertake a number of projects to gain knowledge, acquire problem solving skills, learn to collaborate with others, and develop the flexible professional skills that are required for work in the computer science field.

Many senior and junior-year students work with me in my research on machine learning, data mining, data fusion, biometrics, and digital image processing. Currently I am working on three different projects. In the first project, we employ deep learning machine techniques and federated learning to develop a classifier for certain diseases. In the second project, we employ machine learning techniques and image processing techniques to develop a fully automated classifier to extract and predict circular atmospheric patterns to have more understanding of global climate change. In the third project, we use transfer learning techniques in Internet of Things (IoTs) applications.

In my social life, I like spending time with my family, watching movies and basketball, and cooking food.
