Anthony Wendel ’20 Combines Interests in Computer Science and Geology

Anthony Wendel is using Machine Learning to Predict Locations of Springs in Wisconsin.
  • Anthony Wendel

Anthony Wendel ’20 is majoring in Geology and Physics with a minor in Computer Science. His senior thesis involves applying machine learning to recently collected data on Wisconsin’s freshwater springs (Swanson et al., 2019). Anthony is hoping to visualize patterns concerning where springs are most likely to be found and eventually predict locations of springs still undiscovered. To manipulate and display the data, he will be using Python and ArcGIS.

Anthony is working with Professors Eyad Haj Said (Computer Science) and Sue Swanson (Geology and Environmental Studies).
