New Announcements- Steam, Speed, Modernity

·        I encourage all of you to check out the final projects for this class.  They are located on moodle at https://pasta.beloit.edu/moodle/course/view.php?id=271 under “English 301.”  The password for our class is the third term of our course title (not part of Turner’s painting title).

·        In addition, do take a look at Anya and Lauren’s mapping project for the class.  It is on display now in the Java Joint (to the left of the computer area on the bottom part of the wall).

·        If you have questions about Gibson and Sterling’s The Difference Engine, I encourage you to consult a helpful reference site entitled “The Difference Dictionary” at http://www.sff.net/people/gunn/dd/.  It defines a variety of detailed period terms in the novel.

·        Do pay particular attention to the ways in which Gibson/ Sterling have altered Disraeli's plot line in Sybil.  Why do you think they did so?

·        Click here for more information about FINAL PROJECTS and project presentations.     To get you started, here is a list of some topics and a bibliography.  Also check out http://www.victorianweb.org-- an authoritative web source.

·        Here is the schedule of short presentations.  Questions? Check out these guidelines for presentations

·        As you read, make sure to consult the following handouts:

·        Historical Terms Defined

·        Literary Terms Defined
