A trip to Egypt has been planned for you and prepared as a virtual site. The pictures were taken by Dr. Sonja Darlington, Associate Professor of Education at Beloit College.

She went to Alexandria, Egypt in March 2003 to give a paper at the African Literature Association Annual Conference on the girlchild in North Africa. She took photos of her travels and invites you to join her in seeing the sites of Alexandria and Cairo.

The content of this website has been organized and written by Rama Diabong. She is a student from Senegal at Beloit College, and with a stipend from the Education Department in summer 2003, she created this informative location for students at the College and in the Help Yourself Programs.

Rama obtained her BA in African Literature and linguistics, and her Master's Degree in English. She is now at Beloit College as an exchange student but hoping to go to a graduate school and major in International Relations - African studies.

With a diplomat father she has traveled to different countries, mostly in the African continent, like Ghana, Algeria, Mauritania, Zimbabwe, The Gambia. She has also been to the USA - New York - when she was younger.

Rama likes cultural activities and was a very active member of her home university's English Club and Drama Committee of which she was the assistant of the leader. She was in charge of dance, ballet, and all cultural events within the club including poems and sketches, and so on.

She was an assistant teacher at a private English School known as Bourguiba Language Center in Dakar, SENEGAL. She also worked for a student from UW Madison who went to Senegal to research on "The social contest of sexual networking among migrant women in Senegal: implications for the HIV." which was her thesis subject.

She loves traveling and she spends most of her spare time reading or listening to music. She enjoys working out and used to play soccer and basketball in a club team in Dakar. She speaks four languages so far and is planing to resume her Spanish to add a fifth language to her skills.
