383. Mathematics Colloquium (1⁄4).
Presentations by participants on selected topics, with occasional guest speakers. This version of the colloquium is especially recommended for math minors. May be repeated for credit if topic is different. (Also listed as Computer Science 383.) Graded credit/no credit. Prerequisite: Computer Science 111 one unit of Computer Science and Mathematics 110.

P. 117 will change to

384. Mathematics Colloquium (1⁄2).
Students will learn how to research topics, write papers, and present talks in mathematics. They will review manuscripts and talks given by students in Mathematics 385 and will write preliminary drafts of presentations themselves. Discussions on other topics of significance to mathematics professionals. (Also listed as Computer Science 384.) Offered each semester. Prerequisite: Mathematics 175.

385. Mathematics Colloquium (1⁄4).
Presentations and written papers by the participants on selected topics, with occasional guest speakers. The course may be taken more than once. (LW) (Also listed as Computer Science 385.) Offered each semester. Prerequisite: Mathematics 384, junior standing.

1. Nine and 1⁄2 departmental units:
c. Four additional elective units: No more than 2 100-level units. No more than 1 total unit of Physics 300, 390, 395, and 397.
One unit Up to one total credit of computer science or mathematics may be substituted for a physics elective, with prior departmental approval.

2. Three units of electives in linguistics or language-related courses chosen in consultation with the program advisor, with no more than 2 units in any one department. Normally, no more than 1 of these units may be counted toward meeting the requirements for the minor in linguistics if it serves to meet the requirements for any other concentration. Courses may be elected from the following: Computer Science 310, Education and Youth Studies 243, English 160 and 301*, Linguistics 200, or Philosophy 100. Other language-related courses may be considered for electives in consultation with the program advisor and instructor of the course.

4. Completion of the pre-engineering core curriculum at Beloit with at least a “C” average: to either a B.S. or an M.S. degree in engineering.
