Global Ecology Education Workshop

Yaffa Grossman, Paul Weihe, Robert Woodmansee

Ecological Society of America: Globalization meeting

Merida, Mexico, Jan. 8-12, 2006

Task: Ecological Modeling for Class Use
Leader: Yaffa Grossman, Beloit College, Beloit, WI (grossman@beloit.edu)

Information on some of the models and materials mentioned at the workshop

Environmental Decision Making (EDM)

Elisabeth C. Odum (Santa Fe Community College),
H. T. Odum (University of Florida - Gainesville), and
Nils S. Peterson (Washington State University)

EDM allows students to build ecosystem models from pre-existing components using visual programming tools. EDM (http://www.bioquest.org/BQLibrary/library/edm.html) will be available soon from BioQUEST Curriculum Consortium: http://www.bioquest.org/indexlib.html

PEACH

Yaffa L. Grossman (Beloit College),
Theodore M. DeJong (University of California, Davis), and
Scott F. Vosburg (Independent Software Developer)

PEACH allows student to simulate tree growth and fruit production by modeling photosynthesis, respiration, and partitioning to various plant organs. PEACH (http://www.bioquest.org/BQLibrary/firstreview/peach.html) will be available soon from BioQUEST Curriculum Consortium: http://www.bioquest.org/indexlib.html
